Interview with Carl Yardley of UCantLose.co.uk

By: Paul Whelan

PW: Hello Carl, great to meet you and thanks for coming by this afternoon. We've known each other for a while and I've followed your service for even longer, so it's a real thrill to actually put a face to a name so to speak. I know you're a bit pushed for time so if I kick off straight away with the questions for our readers? First of all, How long have you been interested in gambling and how did you get involved?

CY: I have never really been a big gambler which is why sports arbitrage (arbs) have always appealed to me. I first found out about risk free arbs during my student days. I needed extra cash to spend all day in the pub……I mean buy books……and getting a “proper job” never really appealed. During one all-day “study session” in the student union bar a friend of mind told me all about this sports arbitrage book that his dad had bought and how he was making a few hundred quid a day from the comfort of his living room. I was instantly hooked and have never looked back.

PW: Which sport appeals most to you from a betting point of view, and why?

CY: I am always looking for a quick, easy and risk free return from my bets and so anything appeals as long as there is a buck to be made. I like events with just two outcomes, such as tennis and snooker, because when you are looking to back all outcome for a risk free profit the less outcomes there are to back the quicker and easier it is.

PW: What is the story behind your most memorable bet?

CY: THAT’S EASY!! The 1994 Coca Cola Cup Final was the first time I got the chance to watch the Villa (yes that’s right……I’m an Aston Villa fan!!) play in a major final at Wembley because I had managed to blag a ticket from a mate of my Dad’s. We were playing Man Utd and total underdogs but I fancied us to win and win well so I took really nice odds on Villa to win 3-1. We were in top form that day and the result was never in doubt (but then I am VERY biased) but my bet was looking like a loser until Andrei Kanchelskis handled in the area and Deano (Dean Saunders) slotted home the penalty. The winnings from that bet paid for an upgrade from the B&B I was booked into, to a swanky hotel and a great night on the town in London. THANK YOU MR LADBROKES!!

PW: Do you have any particular sporting heroes?

CY: Paul McGrath was and always will be “The Lord”. I just loved the fact that a hard drinking Irishman with two dodgy knees could make a living out of professional football and do it so well. Man Utd were stupid to offload him but hey…..their loss!! He would not have stood a chance in the modern game but what a legend!!

PW: Which sports venue or event do you visit most often, and why?

CY: You may be spotting a bit of theme here……Villa Park. Why?.....Well that’s a question I have asked myself many, many, many times over the years!!

PW: How did you get the idea for UCantLose.co.uk?

CY: As I mentioned earlier the whole concept of risk free arbs was introduced to me by a good friend at university. After using the technique to see me through university and graduate without the “millstone” of debt that most students end up with I decided it was time to put my IT qualification to good use and get a job. I moved down to London, stayed with friends and got a well paid job in the IT department of a large law firm. The money was good and, for the first few years anyway, I enjoyed the job. I still did the occasional arb to pay for nights out and holidays but it was definitely on the back burner. Eventually I started to get bored with fixing lawyers computers and was spending more and more of the working day checking odds, finding arbs and making a nice profit. In November 2003 I decided to “take the plunge”, quit my job and setup UCantLose.co.uk.

PW: Can you tell us a bit more about the web site?

CY: UCantLose.co.uk has come a very long way since November 2003. When UCantLose.co.uk was first launched I did all the website design, helpdesk support and found all the arbs manually. Over the past four and a half years I have had the website professionally redesigned and commissioned a very special piece of software that scans bookies odds and helps me find the freshest arbs available anywhere on the internet. I also have a very knowledgeable and experienced support team who aim to answer all emails within 24 hours.

PW: What will my readers gain most from visiting your web site?

CY: Apart from an increased bank balance your readers will also get the chance to take advantage of many special offers. I have a team dedicated to finding the best special offers and freebies from all over the world. In the past we have given away free football shirts, free baseball caps, free casino chips, free credit at leading bookmakers and much much more. Also, an odds comparison section has been added to UCantLose.co.uk and it is proving to be very popular. The advanced software compares up-to-the-second odds from all the top bookies on a vast array of events to give the widest selection of bets at the highest odds possible. If your readers are serious about making a profit from betting then this is the website for them. From boxing to Big Brother and politics to pool, they will find everything they need at our comprehensive odds comparison website.

PW: Have you had good feedback from visitors and members so far?

CY: We have hundreds of satisfied customers and a small selection of the positive feedback can be found on the website.

PW: Do you have any further projects on the drawing board?

CY: I am currently looking at adding a function to the arb alert service whereby customers can place filters on the arbs they receive. For example they can say “only send me arbs over 5% and using UK based bookies”. My software team is working overtime on this and they hope to have it ready within the next few months.

PW: Everybody is an expert in the betting game, and that’s what makes it so appealing, but is there any advice you can give my readers when it comes to making money from betting?

CY: I don’t really bet much because once you have made a risk free profit from arbs you find it hard to risk your money on a “punt”. When I do bet I look for value and use the UCantLose.co.uk odds comparison website to always bet at the best odds possible. What I would say is gambling should be fun so keep your stakes to what you can afford and don’t go chasing losses. “Don’t gamble with what you can’t afford to lose” is a well worn cliché but it’s very good advice.

PW: So... what does the future hold for Carl Yardley and UCantLose.co.uk?

CY: Much of the same I hope. I feel blessed that I do a job I really enjoy and I help people make an extra few quid to make their lives that little bit sweeter.

PW: JCarl, as I said earlier, it's been fantastic to finally meet up with you. UCantLose.co.uk is one of those genuine success stories, and it's reassuring to know you are even now still trying to make the service even better for your customers. Thanks for your time, and the very best of luck for the future.

CY: Pleasure Paul, and all the best to members of SkyBlueKangaroo - did I really just say "sky blue kangaroo?"
